LASk 1001 Mastering Skills for College Success

  • Description: This 2-credit class teaches students
    • Means to more effective study
    • How to think critically
    • Ways to successfully manage time and stress
    • Strategies to help comprehend textbook material
    • Approaches to preparing for exams
    • AND LASk 1001 increases academic and personal self-awareness
  • Registration: Students can register for LASk 1001 without a permission number. A limited number of additional students may be admitted to a filled section with instructor permission. Please come to class on the first day to discuss this possibility with the instructor.

LASk 1101: Academic Success

  • Description: This 1-credit class helps students who are at risk academically build a plan for success. Students receive weekly, individualized instruction as well as an opportunity to meet in discussion with other students who are facing similar challenges.
    • Option 1: LASk 1101 full-semester course
      • This class is intended for students on academic probation. It helps students explore what makes learning in college difficult and how they can build a personal plan for getting off probation.
    • Option 2: LASk 1101 mid-semester course
      • This class is open to all students concerned about improving their academic performance.
  • Both LASk 1101 sections help students learn what to do when:
    • Personal factors interfere with performance
    • Students are unhappy with the institution or degree program in which they are currently enrolled
    • There are problems in specific courses
    • Students' approaches to study are not bringing good results
    • A student is not really sure s/he wants to be in college
  • Registration: Both sections of LASk 1101 require instructor permission to register. Interested students should schedule a time to briefly meet with the course director through the front desk at (612) 624-3323.
